Data Collection

Discussion

Write a minimum one-page (12 font, single spaced) discussion on the experiment conducted this week.  The assignment will be graded on completeness, clarity of the explanations and the meaningful integration of the collected and calculated data. Correct grammar and appropriate format for the chemical formulae and chemical reactions is expected.  
  1. (Existing knowledge, research, and views) Identify the compound responsible for the pH for each of the tested substances using the scientific literature.
  2. (Existing knowledge, research, and views) Write the correct chemical formula for each of the tested substance.
  3. (Existing knowledge, research, and views) Identify the chemical species in the indicator that created the color.
  4. (Analysis) Explain the necessity to dry the paper in the invisible ink experiment.
  5. (Analysis) Predict whether the turmeric mixture would give the same result with any base, or was this experiment unique to the sodium carbonate solution.
  6. (Analysis) Provide a supported argument for what occurs when putting the base on paper. Identify the paper as acidic, basic, or neutral.
  7. (Analysis) Identify how turmeric might be used as acid-base indicator.
  8. (Analysis) Provide a supported argument for the reason turmeric doesnot turn food red when used in cooking.
  9. (Experimental Design) Design an experiment to give a dramatic color change involving cooking or food, using turmeric.
